"Notice that Autumn is more the season of the Soul than of Nature."

One of my favourite evening views of Vancouver resides in Charleson Park, where a section of the False Creek Seawall can be found. There are a few ways to get here, but I personally choose to do it by strolling across a footbridge, with an entrance on 7th and Laurel Street. Though the daytime view is something in itself, the evening view is definitely much more promising.

In contrast to the long summer days, the scenery changes little, but the mood undoubtedly differs. As Autumn begins to settle in, it gets quieter, the air more crisp. Gone are the wanderers and sightseeing photo takers, casually dropping by for a snapshot. All who are left are few, dedicated to their routinely task of physical fitness. They are those who frequent the route, familiar with its terrain, unfazed by the glowing vista that lies across the creek.

Armed with my best companion, a substantial, well-built escort, in the form of a camera, I make my way to the shoreline. Look out into the distance. Snap a few photos. Breathe in the fresh air that surrounds me.

A yacht or two may float by, quietly. The sound of the wind rustling greets my ears, signaling a breeze traveling by.

The rest of the park remains dark, hidden in the shadows. It is no match for the glare of its neighbour.

It is difficult to describe the sense of serenity I get immersed in, draped in a cozy cardigan, looking out at the lights that greet me. Nostalgic, almost, reminiscent of the vivid, captivating skylines of, say, Hong Kong or Shanghai.

This is Vancouver's response. Our own, smaller version. With cozier, softer lights reflecting back at you, almost leisurely. More personal. An embodiment of this city's essence.
